How do we create cities that make us happy?

Today, 50 % of the world's population live in cities, and with the current speed of urbanization it will reach 80 % by 2050. How does the cold, vast megacity influence us as human beings? The acclaimed Danish architect Jan Gehl has during the last fifty years observed how the modern city landscape is blocking human interaction. Gehl's idea of creating including and intimate public spaces, focusing on pedestrians and cyclists, have been crucial for the city planning of Copenhagen. Now his methods are also introduced in New York, Melbourne, Dhaka and Chongquing.
