New Year's Eve, 2008: Oscar Grant faces several problems in his life after he loses his job and his girlfriend finds out he cheated on her. He wants to show he is able to make amends, and the new year seems to be a new start for him – until a fatal incident changes everything. FRUITVALE STATION tells the true story of 22 year old Grant, who was shot and killed by a police officer on New Year's Day 2009. The film recreates the last 24 hours of Grants life, and gives an insight in the events that led up to his tragic death.
RYAN COOGLER is an American filmmaker and screenwriter, born 1986. He made his directorial debut with FRUITVALE STATION (2013), which has received several prestigious awards at various film festivals, such as Sundance Film Festival and Cannes Film Festival.
