THE SUNFISH is the directorial debut feature from Danish director Søren Balle and depicts third generation fisherman Kesse, who owns and operates a small boat out of the Hirtshals harbor. Reluctantly he agrees to let the marine biologist Gerd come aboard to study his catches, as it will give him extra fishing quotas. He is in dire need of this, as the fishing industry continues to put pressure on small-time fishermen like himself. Soon enough, Kesse and Gerd fall in love - but his financial problems only get worse.
