Innocence lost

When the king of Bhutan opened the country for internet and television, he assured everyone that the consequence of the new technology would be an increase in the nations "gross national happiness". HAPPINESS tells the story of how the town of Naya changes as electricity and cable-TV finally arrive, and through the eyes of a young monk we witness the townspeople's introduction to cars, toilets and the modern commodities people in the West take for granted. The documentary celebrates a simpler way of life, and questions the value of our modern technology.
