The rise of a King. The fall of an Empire.

In this entertaining documentary, filmmaker Eugene Jarecki takes us on a musical journey through modern-day America in a 1963 Rolls Royce which once belonged to none other than Elvis Presley himself. Positing The King’s life as a metaphor for the evolution of the American project, Jarecki sets out to capture the spirit of a nation which he sees as bloated, addicted to drugs and dying on the toilet. Featuring an impressive range of archive footage and interviews with people such as Alec Baldwin, Chuck D, David Simon and Greil Marcus, PROMISED LAND is an idiosyncratic portrait of 21st century USA.
