A thousand words for heartbreak

Using animations based on historical archives, THE MAN WHO KNEW 75 LANGUAGES documents the life and achievements of Georg Sauerwein (1831-1904). This German visionary devoted his entire life to the fight for minorities' right to freely use their native languages. As a young man he developed a great love for the Romanian princess Elisabeth of Wied – a love which was both forbidden and impossible - but once his heart was broken, he dedicated the rest of his life to language.

Festival guest: Anne Magnussen, director
