In one of the biggest hospitals in Paris, the doctors and nurses are constantly under pressure due to understaffing and severe budget cuts. Over a period of two years, director Jérôme Le Maire followed members of a surgical unit whose main job is to save lives, but who constantly have to make economical and ethical assessments in the hospital's pursuit of efficiency and productivity. BURNING OUT is a critical examination of the increasing expectations of speed and productivity in the health sector, at a time when more people than ever are getting burnt out in their professional lives.
