A surrealist biopic about poetry and democracy

NERUDA is an unorthodox, funny and visually wild portrait of Chilean poet and diplomat Pablo Neruda. Pablo Larraín portrays the Nobel laureate and communist party representative as a man on the run, after president Gabriel González Videla outlawed communism in 1948. This results in a highly entertaining cat-and-mouse game between Neruda and the fictitious government agent Oscar Peluchonneau, in an original and visually lush biopic where poetic truth trumps historical facts.
