Equal parts bizarre, touching and profoundly human, Carlo Guillermo Proto's baffling documentary RESURRECTING HASSAN tells the story of the Harting family and their attempts to bring their son Hassan back from the dead. This struggle is complicated by the fact that both Denis, Peggy and their adult daughter Lauviah are blind, and that Denis and Lauviah suffer from autism. Balancing the sheer strangeness of his subjects with all too relatable themes such as loss and (be)longing, Proto crafts a uniquely fascinating film in the vein of directors such as Harmony Korine, Xavier Dolan and Werner Herzog.
