Few countries on earth has the same strong bond with horses as the people of Kyrgyzstan, where they are known as the wings of humankind. In the poetic pastoral drama CENTAUR we meet a protagonist who spends his spare time freeing horses from their oppressive owners. In Aktan Arym Kubat's capable hands what could easily have ended up as a cliché of "World Cinema" emerges as a beautiful and melancholy fable about tradition and modernity, religion and greed. If you are only going to see two films about Kyrgyzstan this year, make sure it's this one and GRAB AND RUN.
