Record in audience numbers at BIFF 2013
The 14th Bergen International Film Festival finished on Wednesday 30 October 2013 with a larger audience than ever: a total of 53 333 visits. Festival Director Tor Fosse is very pleased with this year's festival.
This year's festival closed Wednesday 30 October 2013 with a total visit of 53 333, an increase of about 3,000 from last year. This year was also holds the record in visits by students, almost 20 000 students, from secondary and high schools in Hordaland.
The festival director thanks the festival's sponsors, guests, award winners, volunteers and the audience for the continued support and commitment to the festival in its 14th edition.
- BIFF's owner is Bergen Kino, and the staff and management of the cinema has been invaluable in the hosting of this year's BIFF, says Festival Director Tor Fosse. Meanwhile, Fosse also takes this opportunity to commend the BIFF staff who have done an amazing job, way beyond what you could expect.
This year, as in previous years, we have had a number of national and international guests visit the festival. Director Deeyah Khan won the award for Best Norwegian documentary, and received a standing ovation and overwhelming feedback from students who saw BANAZ - A LOVE STORY as part of the school program. Also the Tamil poet Salma was received by the audience with loud applause and tears, both at the opening of the Checkpoints program and school screenings.
