Acclaimed Canadian filmmaker Vincenzo Natali uses the production of Terry Gilliam’s TIDELAND as a framework to create a compelling portrait of the director as artist, provocateur, inventor and comedian. GETTING GILLIAM explores Gilliam’s unorthodox methods, incorporating animation, clips from his previous films, and extensive interviews. During the production of TIDELAND, Gilliam provided Natali with a completely open and uncensored view of his daily life on and off the set. This in-depth exploration of Gilliam’s process is a unique chance to understand the incredible creative mind of one of film’s greatest auteurs.
Canadian Vincenzo Natali (b. 1969) went to high school with David Hewlett, who has been in all three major films directed by Vincenzo Natali: CUBE (1997), CYPHER (2002), and NOTHING (2003). Natali has also worked at the animation studio Nelvana, doing storyboards. He has written and directed one of the sequences in PARIS, JE T'AIME (2006), currently at the cinema.
