Martin Koolhoven was born in The Hague in 1969. He studied film in Siddard in Netherlands, in Brussels and at the Dutch Academy of Film and Television. His feature film debut AMNESIA (01) was a genre bending psychological drama. The thriller THE CAVE (01) won him the best director award at Nederlands Film Festival. The dark, unsettling drama THE SOUTH (04) was screened at several international film festivals. At the AFI festival in Hollywood in 2004, Koolhoven was presented in the "New Faces of European Cinema" section.
