Kind Ms. Geum-ja is released from prison after 13 years, with a carefully planned recipe for revenge

She’s hailed as an angel, the poster girl for religious rehabilitation by a preacher and a chorus of Santa Clauses as she walks out of prison following a 13-year-sentence for kidnapping and murdering a little boy. But when beautiful Lee Geum-ja is presented with the traditional white tofu cake, meant to celebrate the birth of a new, reformed life, she tosses it to the ground and coldly walks away. The woman who carried a reputation for good deeds behind bars, sets herself on a path of retribution aimed at the man whose evil crimes left her behind bars.

Park Chan-wook

Park Chan-wook was born in Seoul and studied philosophy at Sogang University, where he founded a film club and developed a strong interest in film theory. His feature films include THE MOON IS THE SUN'S DREAM (92), TRIO (97) and JOINT SECURITY AREA (00). In 2002 he released the first film in his now famous revenge-trilogy, SYMPATHY FOR MR. VENGEANCE (02) (BIFF -02), and continued with the widely acclaimed OLD BOY (04) (BIFF -04) the Grand Prix at the 2004 Festival de Cannes, before now ending it with SYMPATHY FOR LADY VENGEANCE (05), which after being shown in competition at the 2005 Venice Film festival, has been a regular at the film festival circuit throughout the world.
