Shadow of the Holy Book
The former Soviet republic of Turkmenistan is blessed with vast reserves of oil and is a treasure chest for multinational corporations eager to increase their profits. Turkmenistan is also infamous for its long-time president, Saparmurat Niyazov - or better known as Turkmenbashi ("leader of all Turkmens") - and the cult which he built up around himself. SHADOW OF THE HOLY BOOK shows how multinational corporations translate and distribute Turkmenbashi's absurd propaganda work "Ruhnama" to gain access to the country's natural resources.
