WALTZ WITH BASHIR is part documentary film and part animated feature film. Using his own experiences in the Israeli army as basis, director Ari Folman plays the lead role as a man trying to rediscover his suppressed memories of the massacres in the refugee camps Sabara and Shatila in 1982. Anyone who has ever doubted that animated films can tell a serious and engaging story for an adult audience, will be proven wrong by WALTZ WITH BASHIR, one of the most notable animated movies of all time.
Ari Folman has worked as a writer, producer and actor for film and television. He made his directorial debut with the feature film SAINT CLARA in 1996, which he followed up in 2001 with MADE IN ISRAEL, a film about the last Nazi on earth being delivered to the Israeli government as part of a peace settlement. WALTZ WITH BASHIR is his first animated film and his international breakthrough as both a writer and director.
