Stuyvesant High School is the most prestigious public high school in New York, and the president of the student council is almost guaranteed acceptance into Harvard or Yale. In FRONTRUNNERS we see the tactics and strategies of American politics as they trickle down through the system. With this original and disarming approach, director Caroline Suh manages to highlight one of the most striking aspects of American politics, namely its intense focus on personality. Or, as one of the film's character sums it up: "High school politics is nothing but a popularity contest!"
Caroline Suh started to work as a journalist and writer, but soon discovered the potential of combining it with moving images. She has been a producer on several documentaries for public television, A&E and the History Channel. FRONTRUNNERS is her debut as director.
