Searching 4 Sandeep
When Poppy Stockell from Australia started researching lesbian online dating for a documentary, she didn't think that she would end up making a film about her own relationship. That she falls in love with the English woman Sandeep Virdi, who still lives with her conservative Sikh family, does not make things easier. Stockell and Virdi decide to start filming the development of their relationship and the result is a fascinating story of love and identity across cultural and geographical borders.
Poppy Stockell began her career at Sydney's 2 SER FM radio station. She has since had extensive experience in radio as a freelance producer and program-maker. In 2004, she made the leap to film and television, studying cinematography at North Sydney TAFE Institute. Her camera credits since then include WALK LIKE A MAN, SUBURBAN MAYHEM (2006) and THE SILENCE (2006). Her other film credits as writer/director include the short ALIGHT TOUCH and a music video.
