The Red Awn
The directorial debut of screenwriter Cai Shangjun: A gorgeous looking, gently affecting drama. After five years of working away from home, Song returns home to find that not only is he a widower, but he himself has been declared officially dead. Inconveniently risen, this long absent father must try to rebuild his bond with his motherless teenage son, as the pair strive to sustain themselves by farming.
Cai Shangjun graduated from the Central Academy of Drama i Beijing in 1992 with a bachelor's degree in writing. After graduation he spent two years making documentaries. His work as a screenwriter for films like SPICY LOVE SOUP (1997), SHOWER (1999) and SUNFLOWER (2005) has earned him recognition in China, and the films have received many awards. THE RED AWN is his first feature film.
