Francesca is a thirty year old Romanian woman who lives with her mother and dreams about emigrating to Italy in order to start a Romanian kindergarten. Through a friend of a friend she manages to secure a position as a maid in a small Italian town, and the only thing that remains is to get the finances in order. However, her no good boyfriend Mita manages to get into business with some local criminals, thus losing the money for Francesca's trip.
Romanian-born Bobby Paunescu spent many years working as a producer for Romanian TV, before he produced Cristi Puiu's critically lauded THE DEATH OF MISTER LAZARESCU in 2005. FRANCESCA, on which he serves as both writer, producer and director, is his first feature film.
