EASTERN DRIFT is Sharunas Bartas' cynical view of a region in trouble – the region, of course, being the Baltic states. Two decades after the fall of Soviet Russia, people in the Baltic still feel their lives are being controlled by Russian interests. However, this time around, the culprits are not Russian politicians, but Russian criminals. Gena the drugdealer gets into hot water when a job goes wrong and he is left penniless. When he also manages to kill a high ranking member of the mob, things do not look good for Gena.
Sharunas Bartas (1964) is educated at Moscow's Gerasimov Institute of Cinematography.
