Rune is a young man who gets sent off to Denmark's toughest prison after stabbing a man with a knife. Inside the prison walls he is faced with a brutal world where sudden violence, shifting loyalties and a strict inner justice is the order of the day. As a new inmate, Rune is in a particularly vulnerable position, but when he finds a way to smuggle drugs from one end of the prison to another, he starts moving up the ladder. R is an unpleasant yet refreshingly ambitious slice of European social realism.
