The Korangal valley is a strategically important vein for the Taliban. Coalition forces have fought long and hard in this area and US troops have dubbed it “the valley of death”. In 2007 Sebastian Junger and Tim Hetherington embedded themselves with the contingency going to the Korangal. They offer us a rare insight into lives and psyche of the troops on the frontlines of a battle against an enemy who seems capable of blending seemlessly into the inhospitable terrain. This is the American ARMADILLO.
