Miss Representation

You can’t be what you can’t see – on how women are portrayed in the media

Does the media create an image of power and politics as a men’s game? Youth of today are big media consumers. MISS REPRESENTATION reveals the images that shape what kids think they can become and what qualities they should seek. For women, looks come first. Even female presidential candidates are judged on aesthetics, and Fox News dreads a president with PMS and mood swings. Politicians, experts and students show the shocking stats that keep women in their place - as objects, rather than agents.

Jennifer Siebel Newsom has been around for quite some time in cinema, television and theatre, and has appeared in the popular TV series “Mad Men” and blockbuster IN THE VALLEY OF ELAH (2007). In the media she has unfittingly gotten more attention for being the mayor’s beautiful wife than for her own career. MISS REPRESENTATION is her debut as a director, scriptwriter and producer.
