THE NETWORK tells the story of TOLO TV, the first independent television network in Afghanistan. Director Eva Orner has followed the station since its debut in 2004, at which point public executions was one of the nation's most popular forms of entertainment. Profiling both the people and the philosophy behind the network, as well as its increasing prominence in Afghan culture, Orner displays the TV medium's unique ability to unite a nation around shared experiences.
EVA ORNER is the producer of several acclaimed documentaries. Her works include the Academy Award-winning documentary TAXI TO THE DARK SIDE and GONZO, THE LIFE AND WORK OF DR. HUNTER S. THOMPSON. THE NETWORK is her directorial debut.
