In the Shadow of the Sun
Between June 2007 and March 2009, 54 albinos were killed in Tanzania, where many albinos are denied school and several are put in prison-like camps for their own safety. Ignorance, superstition and lack of education lead to the belief that albinos possess magical properties. Economic gain, more bountiful fishing and mining can be achieved by chopping an arm off an albino child. Josephat Torner has dedicated his life to fight these superstitions and dangerous beliefs. IN THE SHADOW OF THE SUN follows his journey.
HARRY FREELAND is a director, producer and cinematographer. He has worked on films for the BBC, ITV, Sky Community Channel and Teacher's TV. IN THE SHADOW OF THE SUN is his first feature length documentary.
