HOMO@LV documents Latvia's first gay pride parade in 2005, and takes a closer look at the widespread homophobia in the Latvian society. As the first parade is held in Riga, those who take part find themselves subjects of violent counterdemonstrations. Furthermore, many of them are threatened with suspension by their employers, and several priests are defrocked. Recent developments in Russia has made it clear that the former Soviet states are a hotbed of anti-gay sentiments, and Latvia is by no means an exception.
