Long commutes and crowded trains makes it difficult for office workers in Mumbai to bring their own lunch. The food is therefore brought by delivery men called dabbawalas. This highly effective distribution system seldom fails, but once in a while a lunch is misdelivered. One of these lunch boxes ends up on the office desk of Sajaan, a soon to be retired widower. The sender is Ila, an unhappy housewife. Sajaan replies, and thus, the dabbawalas become the carriers of an unusual exchange of letters. The correspondance blossoms into love, but will they ever be brave enough to meet?
RITESH BATRA is an Indian filmmaker, and THE LUNCHBOX is his first full length feature. The film was one of the big talking points at this year's Cannes Film Festival, where it got standing ovations and rave reviews.
