A film about the past, a comment on the present

Even though Britain emerged out of World War 2 with victory, it was nonetheless a costly triumph. In addition to considerable casualties among soldiers and civilians alike, the war had exhausted British industry and drained their economy. But having stood together, fought together and suffered together, Britain as a nation was more collectively minded than ever before, which resulted in a slew of social reforms to combat poverty. THE SPIRIT OF '45 is both a film about the post-war years and a comment on modern-day Britain, which inches closer to the mentality of the years of Thatcher.
