WAKOLDA is a tense and eerie drama set in 1960's Argentina, where German expatriate Helmut Gregor develops a special interest in young Lillith. Lillith is blonde and remarkably small for her age, but to doctor Gregor she is a "perfect specimen". The good doctor moves into the hotel run by Lillith's parents, and soon becomes both friend and physician to the family. However, their interest in Gregor's medical services lessens somewhat when they learn that his real name is Josef Mengele…

LUCÍA PUENZO, born in Buenos Aires, has gained a solid reputation as both author and director. Her first film, XXY, won the Critics' Week Grand Prize 2007 in Cannes and several other international prizes. This year her third film, WAKOLDA, was premiered as a part of the Un Certain regard programme in Cannes.
