In 1972, a group of scientists from MIT published a bestselling book which warned that the environment could not sustain the global exponential growth. LAST CALL tells the story of the writing of "The Limits to Growth", the research project which aimed to stake out a course for a more restrained approach to capitalist growth. At the time of publication, the authors felt certain this was a manageable problem that could be easily solved by means of human action and cooperation. Forty years of global inaction later, they are no longer as optimistic.
