In 2011 Ai Weiwei was put under house arrest and strict surveillance by Chinese authorities after being released from 81 days of solitary detention. Soon after the Chinese government launched an absurd lawsuit, which came to be known as 'The Fake Case'. This film documents the world-renowned artist's fight for human rights during his year on probation. It portrays Ai Weiwei as an artist, a dissident, a family man and an important and fearless voice that refuses to be silenced under any circumstances.
A Q&A session with director Andreas Johnsen will be held at the screenings September 30. and October 1.
