Okina is an aging wood cutter and bamboo gatherer who one day stumbles upon a small growth in the shape of a little girl. He brings it home to his wife Ouna, and the two agree to take care of the mysterious creature. Suddenly, the antropomorphic piece of bamboo transforms into a human baby, and with Okina and Ouna as its parents it grows into a young woman in record time. THE TALE OF PRINCESS KAGUYA is based on one of Japan’s oldest and best known folk tales, and is adapted into film by the director of GRAVE OF THE FIREFLIES (1988), Isao Takahata.
