In a wintry northern Italy the fates of two families are irrevocably tied together by a traffic accident. Told in four chapters, each centered around one of the lead characters, the film slowly reveals what happened that fateful rainy December night. HUMAN CAPITAL is an engrossing thriller and a painful tale about inequality in an Italian society facing severe economic recession. Paolo Virzì is an excellent storyteller, and as the characters steer towards disaster he reveals a systematic disparity in the value of human life.
