The year is 1971 and the location is Belfast, where the conflict between Protestants and Catholics is escalating towards civil war. In the midst of enemy territory young British soldier Gary Hook is accidentally abandoned by his unit during a mission. Disoriented and frightened, he embarks on a deadly journey through the red-brick residential areas of Belfast, which have been turned in to a war zone. Paranoid, intense and claustrophobic, '71 is not only a war film with astonishing action sequences, but also an existentialist lament about the futility of war.
