18 year old Sonita is a paperless Afghan refugee in Iran. While her conservative family wants to sell her as a bride, she secretly dreams of a future as an artist and rapper. In SONITA we follow this brave young woman's struggle to escape an unwanted marriage without losing her family in the process. After a music video draws attention to her lyrics about forced marriage and the situation for young women in Afghanistan, Sonita is afforded a unique opportunity to start a new life in the US. But what will she tell her family?
