What's my name?

In 1896 Paraguayan settlers went into an Aché community and massacred a family they suspected of stealing a horse. Only the family's youngest child survived. The settlers called her Damiana and took her with them. Both before and after her death, Damiana was an object of study for Western anthropologists. More than a century later, her remains are returned to her people for a traditional burial. DAMIANA KRYYGI is a quietly beautiful and deeply moving documentary, which tells the story of the West's repeated transgressions against the indigenous peoples of the world.

DAMIANA KRYYGI opens Gulluglen (Golden Owl) - the University of Bergen's competition programme for documentaries that convey academic research – Wednesday 21. September at 20:20.
