Musician Nabil, journalist Angela, and IT expert Rami have fled their war-torn homeland of Syria and ended up in Egypt. This, however, quickly proves to be but a temporary respite, for as the refugees' situation worsens they are faced with the ultimate threat of deportation. Thus, the trio opt for the only long-term solution – sailing to Europe. THE CROSSING follows them as they spend seven days on the rough open sea and chronicles the survivors' experiences on the new continent, where after several months they still feel as though they are aboard a boat that might sink at any moment.
