In RODNYE (CLOSE RELATIONS) Ukrainian-born Russian filmmaker Vitaly Mansky explores a Ukraine in which the reverberations of the Euromaidan revolution of 2014 are still being felt. Visiting his family and relatives who live in different parts of the country he travels to Lviv close to the Polish border, Sevastopol in Crimea and Odessa by the Black Sea which has close ties to separatist Donetsk. Searching for an explanation for the deep social fractures which threaten to tear his country of birth apart, Mansky plunges deep into the historical ties between Russia and the Ukraine.
