We Are the Nation
25 year old Billian Okoth lives in Mathare on the outskirts of Nairobi, one of Africa's biggest slum areas. Half of the population are children, and many of them are orphans. To help the young denizens of Mathare, the resourceful musician has founded "Billian Music Family" – a collective of children who rap, sing and dance as a means of survival. The charming and talented group soon piques the interest of audiences outside Mathare – but what happens to the project's social and political ambitions when they're invited to record a song with one of Kenya's biggest pop stars?
Håvard Holme (Norway) WE ARE THE NATION is his first full-length documentary film.
