Drawing on his personal experiences as a member of the organisation ACT UP, Robin Campillo tells the story of a group of young militant activists fighting for AIDS-victims’ right to medical treatment in 1990’s Paris. Despite being a period piece, Campillo’s film is filled with parallels to the political climate of today. Bursting with complex characters, beautiful people and lots of good music, 120 BEATS PER MINUTE is a beautiful and engaging tale in which personal relationships and larger social issues are intricately woven together.
