A former model and actress turned radical feminist and marxist scholar, Benedetta Barzini has led a rich and glamorous life. Now, at the age of 75, she wants to escape to a world without cameras or familiar faces. In THE DISAPPEARANCE OF MY MOTHER, her son Beniamino Barrese turns his camera towards his mother in order to confront her with this desire to disappear. The resulting conversations and fights add up to an intimate and poignant contemplation on the psychological effects of being seen, photographed and described over the course of a long life.
Beniamino Barrese (Italy) THE DISAPPEARANCE OF MY MOTHER is Barrese’s debut as a director.
