In 2008 Norwegian artist and filmmaker Lene Berg moved to Harlem to be with her partner, an Afro-American publisher who the film only refers to as D. After giving the police a statement about being harassed by a neighbor, D is arrested without being told what he’s accused of. FALSE BELIEF is Berg’s reconstruction of their kafkaesque journey through the American legal system and what starts as an attempt to untangle a minor case, slowly zooms out to depict a society that employs incarceration as a political and economic weapon.
FALSE BELIEF will also screen at Belgin followed by a conversation on Monday 30 September at 19:00 in collaboration with Bergen Assembly
