In the northeastern corner of Russia, Inuit and Chukchi people hunt sea mammals along the Bering Strait. The hunt for whales, walrus and seals has been the key to survival in the area for as long as anyone can remember. In this tactile and kinetic documentary we follow Alexei and Alexander, local leaders who are hard pressed to sustain knowledge and pass on survival skills in the face of climate change. With THE BOOK OF THE SEA, director Aleksei Vakhrushev (THE TUNDRA BOOK, BIFF 2011) delivers a thought-provoking meditation vanishing way of life.
