Talks about UKRAINE IS NOT A BROTHEL
A European Identity?
The documentary UKRAINE IS NOT A BROTHEL is an important contribution to our focus on a European identity. We here discuss exploitation of women in Central Europe, former dictatorship vs the political situation today, as well as the religious factors. Kitty Green who has directed UKRAINE IS NOT A BROTHEL will participate in a discussion with Martin Paulsen from UiB and the Rafto foundation and Hilde Sandvik from the newspaper Bergens Tidende.
About the film:
In the absence of any real feminist discourse, a feminist protest group sprung up in Ukraine in 2008. Today Femen is both a tabloid favourite and a rising movement in Ukraine and abroad. By protesting bare-breasted against sexual exploitation of women, dictatorship and religion, they are making waves both in the media and society at large. UKRAINE IS NOT A BROTHEL gives a glimpse into this chaotic grassroot movement's rise to fame, and their struggles of discovering who are they are and what they want to be.
