The Danish man’s burden

The year is 1836 and the place is Denmark. Young botanist Wulff Joseph Wulff has been appointed by the king to travel to the Danish colonies in what is today Ghana to set up coffee plantations for the crown. Wulff leaves his fiancée in Copenhagen and sets off towards the Gold Coast in the belief that slavery has ended and Danes and Africans alike are moving towards a brighter future. Arriving in Guinea, however, he quickly discovers that there are a lot of things that the king and his men are not privy to. Featuring stunning photography and an impressive performance from Jakob Oftebro in the lead role, GOLD COAST is one of the grandest Scandinavian period pieces ever made.
