THE YARD is Swedish cult director Måns Månsson’s adaptation of Kristian Lundberg’s critically acclaimed novel by the same name. The novel tells the story of an author who takes a job parking cars on the docks of Malmö in order to pay off his back taxes, and slowly gets sucked into the exploitative machinations of the company that employs him. Månsson’s film follows this basic structure but ramps up the kafkaesque nature of the author’s experience, as it creates a visually striking landscape of grim and subtly comedic alienation.
