OBSCURO BARROCO is a poetic docu-fiction about gender and metamorphosis and a vibrant homage to the city of Rio de Janeiro. Following the path of trans queer icon Luana Muniz (1961–2017), the viewer is taken on a journey through the city’s legendary carnivals, euphoric parties in the queer subculture and political demonstrations calling out corrupt and conservative politicians. With its striking cinematography and Muniz’ poetic monologue, OBSCURO BARROCO explores different quests for expressing and attaining one’s true self.
OBSCURO BARROCO is in our main competition programme for international documentaries, Documentaire Extraordinaire.
