Outside of Ghana’s capital Accra lies Agbogbloshie – an enormous plain filled with old TVs, computers, cell phones and other electrical products. Under a sky which is permanently filled with toxic smoke from the fires in which appliances are stripped of copper and aluminium, six thousand men, women and children make a living from the debris of Western society’s obsession with technology. The visually arresting WELCOME TO SODOM paints a terrifying and oddly humanistic portrait of life on the very bottom of the consumer chain.
WELCOME TO SODOM is in our main competition programme for international documentaries, Documentaire Extraordinaire.
