When her father dies and leaves the family in debt, Saltanat is sent off to the big city in order to gain the assistance of her uncle. But when life in the city proves to be quite different from what she’d been promised, Saltanat is only happy to have her loyal childhood friend and admirer Kuandyk by her side. Featuring the delicate cinematography, striking landscapes and subdued drama that characterize Adilkhan Yerzhanov’s filmography, THE GENTLE INDIFFERENCE OF THE WORLD is a beautiful story of two people trying to make it in a harsh world.
THE GENTLE INDIFFERENCE OF THE WORLD is in our main competition programme for international fiction, Cinema Extraordinaire.
